Personal Insight

My journey with environmental self-love began when I realized how dramatically my digital consumption affected my state of mind. I had developed a habit of checking news and social media first thing in the morning, often spending an hour scrolling before even getting out of bed.

The turning point came when I experimented with a simple change: leaving my phone outside my bedroom and beginning my day with my morning ritual instead. This small adjustment transformed my entire day. I found myself naturally more present, creative, and centered.

From there, I began noticing other environmental factors that either supported or undermined my self-love:

What undermined my self-love:

  • The clutter that subtly stressed me, especially in my workspace where piles of papers created visual noise
  • News apps that started my day with anxiety and negativity
  • Certain social media accounts that triggered comparison and inadequacy
  • Rushed transitions between activities that left me feeling scattered

What supported my self-love:

  • Transforming my bedroom into a peaceful haven with soft lighting, plants, and minimal distractions
  • Creating an inspiring workspace with natural elements and meaningful objects
  • Listening to uplifting podcasts that left me feeling inspired rather than inadequate
  • Making space for natural light to flood my primary living areas
  • Surrounding myself with people who reflected back my highest self

What surprised me most was how these external changes reinforced my inner practices. Creating supportive environments wasn’t just about comfort—it was about aligning my outer world with my inner journey. When my physical spaces reflected the calm, clarity, and inspiration I was cultivating within, my self-love practices became more natural and sustainable.
