Today’s Practice: Boundary Awareness & Setting (15 Minutes)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Create a quiet space for reflection and have your journal ready.
  2. Boundary awareness check-in:
    • Take a few deep breaths and scan your body for tension
    • Ask yourself: “Where in my life do I feel drained, resentful, or uncomfortable?”
    • These feelings are often indicators that a boundary needs strengthening
  3. Identify one area where you’d like to establish or strengthen a boundary:
    • It might be with a specific person, in your workplace, or even with yourself
    • Focus on something specific rather than trying to change everything at once
  4. Clarify the boundary:
    • Write down specifically what you need or what isn’t working
    • Example: “I need uninterrupted time to myself in the evenings” or “I’m uncomfortable when work emails intrude into my weekend”
  5. Craft a clear boundary statement:
    • Transform your need into a clear, kind statement
    • Example: “I’m available for work communications between 9am-6pm on weekdays. Outside those hours, I’ll respond the next business day.”
    • Or: “I need 30 minutes of quiet time after work to decompress. I’m happy to connect with you afterward.”
  6. Plan your implementation:
    • When and how will you communicate this boundary?
    • What support might you need to maintain it?
    • How will you respond if the boundary is tested?
