Today’s Practice: Body Gratitude (15 Minutes)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Take several deep breaths to center yourself.
- Begin with a moment of presence:
- Place both hands over your heart
- Feel your heartbeat—the steady rhythm that has been with you since before birth
- Take three deep breaths, feeling the miracle of oxygen entering your body
- Start with simple physical gratitude:
- In your journal, write: “Today, I appreciate my body for…”
- List 3-5 functions your body performs that you might take for granted
- Examples: your eyes that allow you to read these words, your hands that can feel texture, your ears that let you enjoy music
- Expand to deeper appreciation:
- Write: “My body has carried me through…”
- Reflect on challenges, joys, and experiences your body has supported you through
- Examples: healing from illness, bringing children into the world, experiencing pleasure, surviving difficult times
- Transform criticism into gratitude:
- Think of an aspect of your body you tend to criticize
- Write a gratitude statement that shifts perspective on this aspect
- Example: “I’ve often criticized my legs, but today I’m grateful they allow me to walk, to stand, to dance, to carry me through my day.”
- Close with whole-body appreciation:
- Place your hands on your heart once more
- Say: “Thank you, body, for being my home, for carrying my spirit, for allowing me to experience this life.”
- Take a moment to feel genuine appreciation for the miracle that is your physical form
