Today’s Practice: Radical Acceptance (15 Minutes)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Create a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for this practice. You may want to dim the lights and remove any distractions.
- Get comfortable either sitting or lying down, with your spine supported and your body relaxed.
- Close your eyes and begin by taking several deep, conscious breaths:
- Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of 4
- Hold briefly at the top of the breath
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 6
- Continue this rhythmic breathing for 1-2 minutes
- Simply notice the sensation of your breath moving in and out of your body
- Feel yourself becoming more present and centered with each breath
- Begin a gentle body scan to identify an emotional block or area of tension:
- Bring your awareness slowly from the top of your head down to your toes
- Notice any areas that feel tense, constricted, heavy, or uncomfortable
- Once you’ve located a block, bring your full awareness to it:
- Notice its shape, size, temperature, and texture
- Be curious about it without labeling it as “good” or “bad”
- Practice non-judgmental awareness by reminding yourself:
- “This feeling isn’t good or bad – it simply is.”
- “I don’t need to understand it or fix it right now.”
- “This emotion is energy in motion, not a permanent part of me.”
- Move into radical acceptance by internally saying:
- “I see you, and I accept your presence right now.”
- “You’re allowed to be here exactly as you are.”
- “I trust that accepting you creates space for natural movement.”
- Notice what happens when you truly accept without judgment:
- Does the intensity shift?
- Does the sensation begin to move or change?
- Do you feel a subtle sense of space or expansion?
- Allow whatever arises without trying to control the outcome:
- Continue breathing gently into the area
- Trust your body’s innate wisdom to process this energy
- Remember that acceptance allows emotions to flow through rather than getting stuck
- Before completing the practice, take a few more deep breaths, feeling the integration of this experience before slowly opening your eyes.
